According to my Essential Oils Pocket Reference, the following oils are excellent for skin rejuvenation and to prevent and retard wrinkles.
But what blend of essential oils would work BEST for my skin? I really wanted to try Rose and Sandalwood but they are so expensive I figured it was more economical to start at the bottom of the list and work my way up to it. I made blends with Geranium and Patchouli and Myrrh. They were nice but I felt a bit strong on the floral scent for my taste and I did not think they worked any better than just using Lavender and Frankincense. So I started asking around.
The Obvious Choice: Rose Essential Oil
A dear friend who has been with Young Living for a very long time shared her secret: Rose Essential Oil. Alright before you freak out at me because Rose is the most expensive essential oil on the planet and how could it be more economical than buying all kinds of skin care products at the store, keep reading to learn her amazing tip. She told me she bought her bottle of Rose essential oil 10 years ago and she is just now thinking of replacing it. 10 years folks!
Let’s talk about Rose and why it is so sought after…Rose is extremely expensive to produce.
- Just ONE drop of pure rose essential oil = 60 roses!
- A 15 ml bottle of pure rose essential oil = 65 pounds of rose petals!
- One ounce of pure rose essential oil = 60,000 roses!
One 5 ml bottle of Rose essential Oils can run about $185! So why am I telling you about this and why did I end up buying this oil to try? Because…check this out…I am going to provide you with a recipe for a Face serum that costs only $0.01 per drop! Yes! Now do I have your attention?
Homemade Facial Serum Recipe
- 1 drop Rose Essential Oil*
- 2 drops Sandalwood Essential Oil*
- 2 drops Frankincense Essential Oil*
- 1 oz carrier oil of your choice (I use avocado oil, many like jojoba)
Add essential oils to a 1 oz amber bottle fitted with a glass dropper. Pour in the carrier oil you are using. I personally use avocado oil as the carrier oil for my face. It works well with my skin. If you prefer another carrier then use that.
So how is this only $0.01 per drop?
Homemade Face Serum Cost Analysis
At $185.50 per 5 ml bottle of Rose (wholesale price), each drop of Rose essential oil is $2.32!
A 15 ml bottle of Frankincense is $71.75 comes out to about $0.26 per drop.
A 5 ml bottle of Sandalwood will run you about $89.75 wholesale and comes out to about $1.12 per drop.
A 16 oz bottle of avocado oil is about $12.50 or $0.78 per ounce.
So a 1 oz bottle of my homemade face serum will run you about $5.87! There are about 550 drops in a 1 oz bottle of oil. So each drop is $0.01! If you use 5 drops per day your daily usage is just $0.05. So how does this work out in terms of your annual costs? I figure I will use about 3.3 bottles of this homemade face serum in a years time. Oh about $20 for a whole years worth! For real!
How do your fancy face creams and serum costs from the store sound right now? Why not use something completely natural?!
And as for using up a bottle of Rose quickly and needing to buy another…At this rate you wouldn’t use your whole bottle of Rose for over 20 years although I am sure you will find other uses for it once you have it. But my savvy friend gave me this other tip: Rose is super potent. There is no need to use it neat. She always dilutes 1 drop to 1 oz of carrier and then uses it that way drop by drop. So let’s all be serious – who thinks a bottle of Rose is expensive now?
